Got a few questions...

Alright, here goes...

I am thinking about buying a china CAG from a guy near me. He says that the only way it runs is on choke with full throttle. HE says just to clean the carb out and it should be fine.

1. What do you guys think is the problem?

2. Am I better off getting a new carb?

3. Is the Dellorto Rep. carb and good buy or better to spend more on other carb? (Dellorto comes with filter, manifold and throttle cable in one package others are just carb.)

And slightly off topic...

4. If I get a 44mm Head kit, should I get a new crankshaft, or is the stock one fine? Also, could I install the head kit at home with basic tools and mechanical knowledge?

Thanks,
Arek

Why wouldn't you ask davesmotors ??

You say in your other post that they know what there talking about..

Anyway, i'm not to sure that a bike would run with the choke on (as in ride around on it), it wouldn't be getting enough air...

I've got W/C rep carbs on my CAGS, and they run fine, it also made them run slightly better...

I suppose you could fit a Del, but I don't know so don't quote me on it..

Not sure about the crankshaft, but if you have basic mechanical knowledge it shouldn't be a problem..

I would ask them, but in the other post, I meant more that they knew a lot about the parts they were selling ans such, not really trouble shooting how to fix a CAG I don't even have yet.

That's why I decided to ask the community first, since about 95% of you work on and race pockets daily.

if it will only run with the choke on it probbly has a air leak , sounds like it could be gaskets or it could be a crankshaft seal

with the headkits some (most) come with a full circle crank

if your not getting a crank included with your headkit you will need to measure the gudgon pin size, they are either 10 mm or a 12 mm pin so u must get a headkit with piston to suit your crankshafts pin & bering size

I was planning on getting 10mm head kit and crank. I can never find a crank with the head kit. They are always seperate.

Air leak would make sense. With choke off, it gets too much air. And you need to compensate with more fuel. Hence the choke with full throttle. I guess I will just get a new carb, or try and find the bad seal.

A dodgy second hand cag isn't the best way to get started. I can see many problems down the track as this bike clearly hasn't been maintained well. Go for a new bike.

I don't have the money. A new bike, even chinese is like 200 new. This one I can get anywhere from 50-100 if I play my cards right. A carb and gasket set are only like 50 bucks max together, so I would rather take my chances.

I am going to shoot for a head kit, crank, carb, exahust and clutch in the long term.

Ok your choice, but unless you HAVE to buy one right now I'd wait, save, and play it safe.

He wants 100, but if I can get it for anywhere from 50 to 75, it would be a good buy.

Also, I MIGHT sell my PS2 for 210. I still havent heard back from the guy. If I do, I would have 260 dollars total to play with. I am thinking of getting a midi, so I can ride comfortable along my friends, who have mopeds, scooters and racing lawn mowers.

What do you guys think?
