bike number 3! Monster banshee

Woop. picked up a banshee for next to nothing.

these bikes are wicked. euro quality for 1/10th the price. i just love everything about it. motor and radiator are easy to remove.. wheels are easy to take out, even the stock brakes are epic. all great.

just in the process of rebuilding it from the ground up as its pretty F**ked.

- dent in the bzm pipe which i have to pull out
- motor had basically no gaskets
- run with non synthetic oil so theres carbon crap everywhere
- the porting was a bit stuffed in places so i took ages to clean that up and smooth it all out nicely. but what has been done gives it piles of power..
- top fairing is boogered.
- coil is stuffed.

and theres plenty more i could list lol. but the mods have started already.

- even more porting to the crankcase
- replaced the shitted polini coil with the new BZM 3 iron
- new bearings and seals and o rings
- total clean all over
- custom solid aluminium handle bars.

and i started lightening the bracket for the radiator to take some weight out of it. why its made that thick i know not. if the bracket is going to bend so is the radiator. and that spells disaster irregardless! so im going to cut out all the metal between the top and bottom holes probably..

not wasting any time taking her clothes off haha

solid alloy bars. stronger and lighter

plenty more to come! i should have it running again by tommorow. its definitely up there with the bzm when i got it. perhaps a bit more

yeah it is mate, he got out of racing . cost was less then $1000, thats all that needs to be known :P

the polinis are absolutely unbelievable. im sure it goes harder then my bzm does at the moment, but then again the entire setup is 100% polini. im thinking the gold crank is 100% essential to getting power from a bzm setup. the polini cases with the two bolt holes for the coil are a ripper as well.

but ive done heaps and heaps of port work that took last night and all of today to finish off so im expecting it to run even harder now. i think i know what im doing with the porting finally

tommorow should be D-day. hopefully itll work like a charm hahah. hope

Ahhh good news!

Danny got the parts to me quick smart so i got the thing slapped together in a quick 8 hours! what a nightmare its been..

toasting the crankcases in the oven at 160 degrees for 20 minutes lets you pop the bearings straight in as with the seals (awesome tip they literally just drop in! and drop out when the time comes for that too). new set of bzm gaskets and all goes back together.

alas that farking helicoiled stud still haunts me... my solution is much better haha. take an M8 shoulder bolt and cut the head off it and cut the thread to size. we then drill the stuffed hole to the right size and tap it for M8.

after that we turf it in our conviniently placed lathe and make a new 6mm shaft with an m6 thread on the end. thus giving us a normal stud with an 8mm thread at the bottom! much stronger.

the BZM coil also didnt fit because the arms where too long to mount it at the right height. so the holes had to be dremelled out which was a surprisingly difficult job. a half hour later or so and that bolts on nice and sweet.

awhh crap the pullstart wont go on... so out with the angle grinder to cut a nice chunk out of that. now where cooking.

bolt the lovely clutch cover and bell on.. but it grinds against the clutch shoe so it wont spin. WTF! the clutch is definitely on all the way.. how the hell?? i pulled the pinion and pulley off and noted that the bell wasnt all the way in the bearing. not good. i pushed the bell out and low and behold there is a 3mm washer behind the bell for god only knows why reason. theres heaps of clearance between the fins of the bell and the housing...

but none the less that allows the engine to be completely chucked together. i think she looks quite nice

so yeah heres the bike with all the good bits in

and after a bit of effort with the old start yah bastard and liberal application of the choke it splutters to life. definitely showing good signs of life at the moment. tons of power. just have to let it run in a little before i hammer it.

so tommorow i have to

- redo the radiator piping correctly and hope theres no leaks
- put a new chain on as this ones stuffed
- get the remote choke to work properly
- wire up the new killswitch

then we can really thrash it
