| the sound quality depends on the quality of the actual song. most songs riped from windows media player are riped at 128kbps, it is slightly lower quality then a CD, however you can change it to what ever kbps you with. it also depends on the headphones you use. these come with adequate earphones, although you can get fancy headphones for any where from $25-$250 just depends how good you want them.
as for durability, i have been using one of these for my self fro the past 6months. so far i haven't had a problem and the screen/case are practically scratch free. Ive also noticed that the metallic aluminium casing is thicker then the 2nd gen ipods.
all mp4's as of now come with a protective latex case as well.
