| Clarification from Pooraka raceway. I feel obliged to reply on behalf of PR., as it seems that the information given by Bruce personally has definitely been lost in translation.
Firstly, Bruce owns and operates Pooraka Raceway. He is and always has been dedicated to motor sport.
Two and a half years ago he and other family members opened Pooraka raceway to be run as a family business. The track was initially totally dedicated to pocket bikes.
At first, racing was fun. It was more of a social family day and was\well patronized.
Over the time, I suppose as is the case, interest waned for some riders.
Bruce then, due to lack of numbers, decided to run hire karts to help improve revenue.
The last race meeting of pocket bikes converted into $360 for the days monetary takings.
Our weekly rent is $1400 and we pay our insurance on top of that.
You hardly need great math’s skills to realize the shortfall here.
Still, over time, although Bruce and family have been running at a huge loss, Bruce has tirelessly worked 7 days a week and 12 hours a day to provide somewhere safe and legal to ride your little pocket bikes whilst not drawing any sort of a wage over this time. I know that this is his choice, and I am only pointing it out as some of you may be under the misapprehension that Pooraka Raceway is a profitable business.
We are still very much here to provide a facility for people to come and ride their pocket bikes/karts/ride on mowers etc.
You are more than welcome to come and use our facility. We are open 7 days a week from early till late.
The kart hire has certainly helped us to keep our doors open, as if we had not had these, then we would most certainly have had to close. Some days, we would only see maybe one or two bikes. This is contrary to the numbers of riders who would pledge weekly that they would come and ride. Although this is understandable due to work and family commitments.
Over the time, Bruce has charged $ 15-$20 to ride your bikes here all day, from 9am until 9.30/2200hrs each night.
Bruce drew my attention to this site last night and after reading some of the posts on the forum, I felt compelled to straighten things out. .
All Bruce is and has been trying to do is generate an income from his business.
Not a greedy man, not wanting to make money and run, just make a living. Pay the overheads, pay for track upgrades (which are now in operation)
We are, as I said, still here, for pleasure riding or social racing.
If you wish to make a group booking or organize a fully catered event, please contact Bruce on 0882602295.
If there is anything at all which still seems unclear, please do not hesitate to either call Bruce or call in at the track and have a cup of coffee and a chat.
