Pocket bike Racing in SA

Okay, I'm only new to the Pocket Bike scene, but what is the current state of pocket bike racing in SA (because I didn't get into this to not race)?

I don't have the whole story, so please enlighten me if i have it wrong

Sunday, it was suggested by management at Pooraka that it's not viable to run pocket bike race meetings, and that meetings are not planned at this stage.
Then I get home and see that the Pits is having issues aswell?

What are the major hassles from the tracks (businesses) and Clubs/members?
  • If it is revenue, could we look at running race meetings from say 9am to 1pm on Sundays, so the track can still be hired during profitable hours?
  • If it's about numbers on tracks, can we look at pre-subscribing a trophy series, ie pay your entry fee's up front (for perhaps a small discount) so that a series is fully subscribed and paid for before it happens. This is taxing on families etc. but it does allow planning for events and tends to ensure people turn up to meetings as they have already paid.
  • Is it insurance, this is a tough issue but it's been tackled successfully by many other sports. Risk assessment calculations, approaching insurance agencies as a national body etc are all successful tactics.
  • Is it volunteers? This one isn't so hard to solve, if marshalls etc can't be found then all competitiors names go into a hat (some people make a sacrifice so all can race that day).
  • Is it something else?

I might be making a mountain out of a molehill, or this might already be sorted. But as a newcomer, it seems racing is a bit threatened at the moment.

Hi Rnr
Your concerns are heard but all is not lost ,patience and level heads will prevail . There are a few people working in the back ground to sort these issues out.
In regards to the Pits ,they have no issues with pocket bikes, its just they have a few things to work out that they currently don't have a say in .
I'm sure that Gerry and Jax will do their best to try and bring minimotos back to Pt Elliot in the future .

what is there for us when the pitts closes down, they dont want us out north because they make more money off there slot cars an hire carts, (both of which ive never seen being used ) maybe the APBA could buy the property an do the extentions that we where told would be done over a year ago when thry go out of buisness due to bankrupcy. or do i just keep a couple of my bikes for running on the salt once a year.

Hi Offtap

many plans are in the making at the moment. We are waiting for aproval on a very good track now after meeting with them during the week. I also need to note that its still the insurance that needs to be finalised and this is also very close. As soon as things are confirmed we will let all of you know. Very exciting things are comming

regards
Dave

Hey Off tap
How are you ,we all missed you down at the Pits last night, was a terrific night had by all.
Things at the Pits aren't all doom and gloom as we learn t last night.Gerald and Jax are doing their best to keep their track open to Pocketbikes, all they need from us is a growing support that I'm sure every one is keen to give.
I'm sure regardless of what happens at the Pits that Gerald and Jax will always try to find a place for pocket bikes to ride at Pt Elliot.
Unlike the people at Pooraka who I still think that our patronage is still too good for them.Like you said Off Tap "slot cars" and "hire go karts" are more important, funny how people forget who was there to help them from the beginning.
But also Off Tap things aren't looking too bad out North either as Threewheels has said ,there are many things happening to further our sport. Some of these plans are very close to happening.

whoa, steady on there off tap(?)
FACT Pooraka Raceway. still alive and racing.
FACT Hire Karts generating an income to pay overheads to keep the track open. Thus providing another track in Adelaide for people to come and ride and have fun.
FACT track extensions are being done as I type this, and coming along great.
FACTYes indeedy. We now have a great slot car track. Keeps the kids busy for hours so that the Dads can have a good time riding on the track.
Then the Dads come in and have a go with the kids, on the slot cars.
They really do have a ball.
FACTWe are delieghted that there are other tracks available to cater for the more 'committed' racers. In fact we have been referring people to the Pits.It is healthy in all forms of motor sports, in fact all sports, to have different venues to compete at. Everyone knows that.
I certainly hope that this may help to dispell some silly urban myths.

This is a pocket bike forum about bikes ,not go karts or slot cars. We are getting a bit tired of hearing about them !

My post was really all about pocket bikes.
Just informing people that Pooraka Raceway is still here catering for pocket bike riders as always.
sorry Rover if that point did not come across.
I hope that this clarifies things.
Oh, on the topic of the other(unmentionable activities)slot cars/karts..lol couldnt help myself.I was only responding to the posts from yourself and off Tap.You both mentioned them first, a couple of posts ago.

Oh Cont're Pooraka Raceway Brought Them To This Forum In A Couple Of Posts ! :lol
And it's not that they are unmentionable.....It's just we aren't interested in them on this forum in anyway or form,as I'm sure that slot car and go kart forums aren't interested in pocket bikes on their forum.
