“Mitre 10 and our stores are deeply and personally connected to the communities we serve and have been since our creation in 1959. Mitre 10 takes pride in contributing back to the community with each Mitre 10 store and their staff helping their local community in their own unique way. As an Australian member-owned cooperative the vast majority of our stores are owned and operated by people who live and work within the communities that we operate in. Being an active participant in our local communities strengthens relationships and helps in shaping Mitre 10 as socially responsible.
Mitre 10’s commitment to “all the help you need” extends beyond having the right DIY advice and the right range of products at the right price. We aspire to be 'good neighbours' in the communities that we serve, including the contribution of skills and funding to selected community projects.
At a national level Mitre 10 created and has supported the Mitre 10 Junior Landcare Grants Program since 1992, providing grants to schools and youth groups across Australia for environmental initiatives. In this time Mitre 10 has donated in excess of $700,000 to over 1,400 projects. In addition many Mitre 10 stores have provided these schools with expert advice and materials to undertake these important projects.”
The above is a direct quote from Mitre 10’s website, however in our opinion it does little to reconcile Timco Mitre 10 South Coast and/or Easom Nominees Pty Ltd lack of interest in the local South Coast Community. As of 20th July 2007 the Port Elliot Pits has been forced to cease trading due in no small part to a lack of communication by our new landlord. Without the renewal of a requested 6 month extension to our lease (our lease expires at the end of August 2007) a 20 year old local icon has ceased to trade.
We openly admit there are other issues that have exacerbated our position which could have been negotiated with an ongoing lease. All we have requested from our new landlord is a 6 month extension to our existing lease to be able to negotiate a satisfactory time frame to move the Port Elliot Pits. However following a telephone conversation on Wednesday, at which time we were guaranteed an answer within 24 hours, there has been no further communication over 120 hours later.
The Pits has always prided itself on employing and training local youth in the community. This last financial year we have employed over 20 local youths on a rolling basis. With this in mind the inactions of Timco Mitre10 South Coast/Easom Nominees Pty Ltd seems somewhat at odds with Mitre 10's own Community Statement from Mitre 10's own home website.
All expressions in this post are our opinion, and based on the knowledge we have to hand at this time.
Hi Gerald.
We are devastated by this news, one of my customers phoned me today after talking to your people and I did not want to believe it.
If in fact you do have to close the doors on the Pt Elliot Pits it will be a sad day for the Southern community and others including ourselves.
Heres hoping you DO manage to get some sense and positive feedback from the Landlord and if not ,I am sure Jax and yourself will find another venture involving Petrol Fumes to successfully take over .
Thanks for the huge effort so far this year guys !!.
Cheers Brian

i hope negotiations take place with the new landlords etc as this track was looked apon with only positive remarks from what i can tell with the pocketbike & minimoto community
& it would be sad to see it all taken away with such a growing reputation as a top facility for minimoto
the growing support & future help chances of government grants & upgrades to track & or facilitys because of the growing kart pocketbike minimoto community is endless if done with the full support of all clubs track owners & landlords etc
that said no offence to mitre10 or the landlord & any other parties involved
this is my opinion >>>>>>>> only i am not part of the SA pocket bike community
but the land may be worth millions for development & as they say money talks the community is the last to profit & may not have any relivence to this thread but i thought is add the fact that corporate profit can push out the intentions of the community or the little man

Im shocked and sorry to hear that, keep us informed on what is happening as i have been on your track many times with go karts and would hate to see it close down. If you did move where do you think you would go. Would you stay in the Pt Elliot area?

Hi Gerald,
This is very sad news, but do understand that things like this happen, and are out of your control. Although I deeply wish that everything can be worked out for the better, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and Jax for all your commendable efforts so far, and making us all feel welcome. I wish you all the best for which ever path you take and its been a pleasure meeting you all at the Pits.
Best Regards Ian.
Hi to Gerry and Jax
I'm very sorry to hear this post.I would say that a large part if not all of the Pocket bike fraternity would also be sad at this news.
I personally would like to thank Gerry and Jax for their support that they have shown to minimoto's, by allowing us to ride on your beautifully presented track.
Your professionalism has been exemplary in all aspects, with the way you are willing to promote the sport, right through to the way you employ your staff, the fact that they are all locals and most of them are trained in safety is proof of this.On the topic of staff you couldn't find a group of better suited people anywhere else as their courtesy and discipline are a true credit to themselves .
I look forward to a future in minimoto's that includes all of the people involved with the Pits hoping that this is just a case of geography.
hey this really sucks Gerald specially since i just got my pocket bike lol but yer really sucks that you have to close. Hope you find a new place to run the gokarts.
Hi Gerald and Jax
I'm sorry to hear that your track is closing down. I would like to thank you though for letting me ride on your track with my family. My little brother Aiden will also miss playing with Jax's children too.
I hope that we will one day see you at another track if not the Pitts sometime in the future.
Hi Gerald and Jax,
I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having with the lease, I wish you all the best in the future, the Pits was one of the highlights of my pocket bike riding experience so far. I hope that what ever you choose to do in the future is a success, and hope to see you soon
