Legality of pocket bikes on ACT roads

Hi all,

Just curious about the legality of riding pocket bikes on public roads in the ACT. I'd love to get one for myself, just to pop over to my mates' house, etc, but I don't want to be getting pulled over by the police. Am I allowed to ride them on public roads? If not, are they legal at all? What's the punishment if we're caught?

If they are allowed on the roads, is a helmet a requirement?

Are they allowed to be ridden on the foot/bike paths?

Sorry about all the questions, but I figured you're the mob to ask!

Thanks!

It is highly illegal in the ACT to ride pocket bikes on the streets, footpaths or any public place. In the ACT if you are caught, the fines are high and it can actually affect your drivers licence points.

Our club is designed to give people a chance to ride through our racing and events. These are legal events that fall under legislation guidelines. We are a registered business in Australia holding public liability insurance, incorporation and experience in legally legitimate events. Like drag racing, people are going to ride pocket bikes regardless of whether there is a safe place to do it or not. We aim to give people a safe place to ride.

So in answer to your question it is illegal. But I would say that IF you were goign to ride it illegally, at least wear all the safety gear as the most important thing is to make sure you dont get hurt, and trust me these things can hurt.

Hope this helps and be sure to visit our website at www.actpocketbikeclub.com for more info about our club

who knows what u crazy tasmanians allow, according to real stories crime was legalised in ur state so you can drag down the main road if ya like .
seriously though pocket bikes are illegal in public places anywhere in Australia and in just about every country in the world that has road laws. But if your lucky enough to live in a neighbour hood that won't call the cops on ya then u might just get away with it.

Yep its the same all around Australia, which is why clubs are formed to give people an oppurtunity to race in an area that is private and cant be touched by the police.

In fact a good idea is to let the police know where the private racing is held so that the next time they catch some hoon on the streets they can direct them to that club.

We have got the go-kart track set solid in the sense that we will definitely be able to use it. The issue lies in the time that we can ride. At the moment the owner of the track is going through all their race weekends, meets and othe club events to see when there is a gap for us to use it.

Once this has happened we will have solid dates.

Keep watching our site as this is where the info will be posted (I will also announce details on here and planetminimoto).

We cant wait either trust me, we're all doing lots of work on our bikes and cant wait to get them on the track

Cheers mate
