In stock form the 40cc engines make more peak power while the 50cc's make less peak power they make a lot more of it down low. So the 50cc's can accelerate harder out of turns but the 40cc will probably end up overtaking down the straights because they generally rev harder.

Personally I found the 40cc's are a lot nicer to ride. You'll find out when you race mate. I used to have a 40cc stock cag that was a ripper. That one used to give it to most of the 50cc stockers I came up against.

Stick a fatboy and walbro carby and some fiberglass reeds on it and that wakes them up pretty good.
