Barry posted this on his website.... Pocket Bikes, Mini Motards & F1 Cars
Last Saturday we had our second practice for 2010 and without a doubt, I have to say it was the largest attendance in our almost six year history.
Sunday was our first shakedown meeting to start off the year and although not very well attended, it was a great day. Everyone had fun and we all got to go home early.
Sunday Jan 31 is round one of our five round series to start the racing year off. Race calendars for 2010 are now available at the track.
Some in the pocket bike fraternity may disagree with what I am about to say. Pocket bike racing is a very fragmented sport and in the world of motorsport, pocket bike racing is seen as having zero credibility. We want that to change. I have spoken with Darren in Melbourne about this matter over the last couple of years and more recently I spoke with Darren Hansford in South Australia regarding this issue. What is needed is the formation of a peak body to control Mini Moto in Australia.
How it would work is the peak body would be formed. State organizations would then affiliate to the peak body. You would have a National Licencing system, National rules and a National Title system with credibility. We are also suggesting the titles be one round only. Titles would go State by State on a rotational basis each year. Only having the expense of a one round title would be attractive to all competitors.
Once the peak body is formed ideally getting the whole thing under the Motorcycling Australia umbrella would give Mini Moto even more credibility. We will work on that angle once we are up and running.
Discuss this amongst yourselves as I am sure it won’t take you long to work out the benefits of being united as a group.
Now back to the local action, available to our competitors this year will be a Queensland Title in April,
50 practice days,
25 race events, 2 Endurance Events plus more. That should certainly be enough to keep everyone out of mischief for the upcoming year.
Hope to see you all for Round 1 on Jan 31.
Regards,
Barry & Sandra
